NC 15th General Convention Voting Concludes

Voting has concluded to elect the new working committee of Nepal’s Nepali Congress party.

A total of 850 candidates are competing for 297 positions, including party president, vice-presidents and general secretaries. Vote counting for the party president is scheduled to begin today at the National Assembly Hall in Kathmandu.

Voting began at 8:30 a.m., with the initial deadline set for 5 p.m. The deadline was later extended twice, with voting continuing until 7 p.m. Those who reached the polling stations by the deadline were allowed to cast their ballots.

The Election Committee extended the voting period twice, citing the lengthy process.

The election covers several key positions, including party president, vice-presidents and general secretaries.

Election Committee member-secretary Raju Katuwal said votes for the party president would be counted the same day at the National Assembly Hall in Kathmandu.

Ballot papers for other positions would be taken to the party’s central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur, for counting.

The convention, which began on October 4, is electing 228 of the party’s 297 central committee positions.

Another 66 members will be nominated, while several positions, including senior vice-president, female vice-president and the women’s representative from Bagmati Province, have already been filled unopposed.

According to the Election Committee, a total of 7,317 delegates are eligible to vote.

The convention was organised by the party’s central committee elected at a special general convention held in December.
