Understanding Reached to Take Strict Measures to Prevent Misuse of Diplomatic Passport

A meeting held among the chief whips, whips and representatives of all political parties representing in the House of Representatives in presence of Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal took the decision to strictly follow the measures to prevent the misuse of diplomatic passport.

It also drew conclusion that that the existing laws would be strictly follow in the recommendation and use of diplomatic passport for the time being as well as to make necessary amendment in a long-term manner.

Sharing about past instances of misuse of diplomatic passport, Speaker Aryal emphasized the need to take strict measures to prevent misuse of diplomatic passport.

Similarly, Chief Whip of Rastriya Swatantra Party, Kabindra Burlakoti, underlined that passport should be used as per the existing legal provision.

Likewise, Nepali Congress lawmaker Yogesh Gauchan, expressed the view that attention should be paid on capacity building of lawmakers, not only on facilities.

Stating that the country was defamed due to misuse of diplomatic passport, CPN (UML) lawmaker Guru Prasad Baral stressed on review of its historical background and policy.

Chief Whip of the Nepali Communist Party, Yubaraj Dulal, opined that the use of diplomatic passport should be strict and misuse of such type of passport through people specially involved in different high-level delegations should be prevented.

Representatives of other parties stated that long-term conclusion should be reached only after holding further discussion, consultations and studying international practices, according to Speaker Aryal’s Secretariat.

Secretary-General of the Federal Parliament, Padma Prasad Pandeya, said there is no any complication in using diplomatic passport in government works and ordinary passport in personal visit.

Clarifying that diplomatic passport is issued only for government or any special work in accordance with Passport Act, 2076 and Regulation 2077, Foreign Secretary Amrit Rai underscored the need to seek solutions to practical problems surfacing in obtaining visa. (RSS)
