Government’s ‘National Commitment’ Draft Unveiled for Inputs from National Partiers

Nepal government’s draft of the ‘National Commitment’ has been made public seeking inputs and suggestions.

The government prepared the 18-point national commitment by studying the manifestos and commitment papers unveiled by the nationally-recognized six political parties.

It has been posted in the official website of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) for inputs and suggestions. The concerned political parties are requested to provide their recommendations on the draft within coming Baisakh 10.

‘Based on the election manifestos/promises/commitments of the six nationally recognized political parties in the election held on last March 5, a draft ‘National Commitment’ was prepared, and suggestions were sought from the respective political parties by Baisakh 10, 2083 BS.’

The government had unveiled a 100-point agenda around governance reform in the first cabinet meeting held on Chaitra 13.

The government has released the national commitment in accordance with the provision under point number 3 of the agenda.

‘To prepare a national commitment by synthesizing doable issues included in the manifestos, pledges, and commitment papers of all political parties participating in the election, uphold the essence of the Constitution, strengthen the democratic system, institutionalize the mandate expressed through elections, and establish shared ownership of the document, the draft has been prepared.’ It is noted.

The immediate implementation of the shared commitment will be ensured by linking it with the annual policy and programme, budget, and reform agenda, and by establishing the necessary structure under the OPMCM with responsibilities.

In the draft, the manifestos or pledges announced during the election by the nationally recognized parties—Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), Nepali Communist Party, Shram Shakti Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party—are included.

Key priority areas outlined in this national commitment include economic stability and reforms, respect and self-sufficiency in agro production, tourism and civil aviation, energy development and utilization, mining and minerals, infrastructure development, employment as the foundation of prosperity, education and health, forests, environment and climate change, among others.

Similarly, the commitment also includes good governance and anti-corruption, administrative reform and service delivery, electronic governance and technology, social justice and inclusion, international diplomacy and foreign relations, utilization of the knowledge, skills and capital of the Nepali diaspora, sports, disaster management, cooperatives and microfinance.
