Nepal Observes Intl’l Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

Nepal today marks the 61st International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, observed every year on March 21 to raise awareness about racism and promote equality worldwide.
The day was established by the United Nations in 1966 to commemorate the 1960 Sharpeville massacre in South Africa, where 69 people were killed during a peaceful protest against apartheid laws.
In Kathmandu, a rally was held this morning from Babarmahal, drawing representatives from various Dalit citizen organizations.
Participants carried the slogan: “Effective Implementation of State Constitution for Access to Justice for the Dalit Community.”
This year, Nepal’s theme is “Unified Dalit Movement for Equal Rights, Constitution Amendment for Building the Basis of Socialism,” highlighting efforts to strengthen constitutional protections and social inclusion for marginalized communities.
