Speaker Assures PM Shah Will Address Parliament

Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has urged opposition parties to allow parliamentary proceedings to continue, stating that Prime Minister Balendra Shah is preparing to address the House.

The appeal came during Tuesday’s meeting of Nepal’s House of Representatives after opposition lawmakers stood in protest as soon as the session entered its scheduled agenda.

Speaker Aryal said discussions were ongoing with the government and the Prime Minister regarding concerns raised in Parliament. “The Prime Minister is preparing to come to the House and is aware of the issues being discussed,” he told lawmakers while requesting opposition members to take their seats and allow proceedings to move forward.

Despite the appeal, opposition parties, including the main opposition Nepali Congress, continued their protest demanding the Prime Minister’s presence in Parliament. Opposition lawmakers said the Prime Minister should appear before the House to present the government’s position and address public concerns.

Chief Whip of Nepali Congress Basana Thapa accused the government of attempting to weaken the role of the opposition and urged authorities to listen to dissenting voices to build a shared national agenda.

Lawmakers from other parties also stressed the need for greater government accountability and dialogue within Parliament, calling on the Prime Minister to directly engage with lawmakers and respond to issues raised in the House.
