EC’s Deadline Sunday for Parties to Publish Manifestos

With Sunday marking the final day set by the Election Commission Nepal for political parties to make their election manifestos public, only a handful of major parties have unveiled their agendas ahead of the March 5 House of Representatives (HoR) polls.

Among those that have gone public is Nepali communist party which is one of the first major parties to do so.

The manifesto outlines a broad policy agenda across economic, social, governance and institutional reforms, the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), which has pledged to build a people-centric state based on social justice, inclusivity and transparent governance among others.

Similarly, the Aam Janata Party (AJP) has released its manifesto.

At a program in Kathmandu, the party outlined key agendas including a directly elected prime minister, a separate mechanism to control corruption, a “one house, one job” policy and free health and education.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress (NC) is preparing to unveil its manifesto on Sunday at 2:00 pm at the party’s central office in Sanepa, Kathmandu.

Party spokesperson Devaraj Chalise said the document will highlight the party’s priorities on governance, development and citizen welfare.

With the EC’s deadline expiring Sunday, more parties are expected to publish their manifestos today and tomorrow.
