Nepal in UNGA: Foreign Minister Khanal Continues High Level Engagements

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a bilateral meeting at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The meeting took place on the occasion of the high-level session of the 81st UN General Assembly.

During the talks, both foreign ministers exchanged views on various aspects of the longstanding friendly and cooperative relations between Nepal and Pakistan.

They emphasized the need to further strengthen Nepal–Pakistan relations in the days ahead and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Discussions also covered enhancing collaboration not only bilaterally but also at the multilateral level.

In particular, both sides stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between Nepal and Pakistan in multilateral forums such as the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and the United Nations.

Foreign Minister Khanal Holds Talks with Iceland’s Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal and Iceland’s Foreign Minister Þórdís Katrín Gunnarsdóttir held a bilateral meeting at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The meeting took place on the occasion of the high-level session of the 81st UN General Assembly.

During the talks, the two foreign ministers exchanged views on the unprecedented economic and humanitarian losses caused by climate-related disasters. They discussed the damage to life and property caused by the recent devastating floods in Nepal, as well as the growing risks posed by climate change.

They emphasized the need for coordinated efforts by all levels of government and all sectors of society for timely restoration, reconciliation, and reconstruction in the aftermath of disasters. Both sides shared the view that comprehensive mobilization of governmental and social mechanisms is necessary to provide immediate relief to affected communities and to move toward long-term reconstruction.

The two foreign ministers also underlined the importance of strengthening global solidarity and international cooperation to address the growing risks of climate change, capacity gaps, and limited resources.
