Mardi Himal a Popular Short-Duration Trekking Destination in Nepal
The Mardi Himal trekking route in Kaski district of western Nepal is emerging as a popular destination for trekkers seeking Himalayan scenery within a short period.
Located in Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality, close to the tourist city of Pokhara, the trek can be completed in three to four days, with routes starting from Ghalel, Kalimati, Siding or Kade.
The trail takes trekkers through forests, rhododendron woodlands, high mountain ridges and open hillsides, offering views of some of Nepal’s prominent Himalayan peaks, including Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Annapurna I and Gangapurna. The route also leads to Mardi Himal Base Camp, situated at an altitude of around 4,500 metres.
The trekking route currently receives around 600 to 700 visitors daily. Tourist numbers increase during the Dashain and Tihar festival seasons and in favourable weather conditions, attracting both domestic and international visitors and supporting local businesses.
However, the long-term development of the trekking destination will require improvements in infrastructure, waste management, tourist information services and safety arrangements.
