President Paudel Stresses Rule of Law

President Ram Chandra Paudel has said that the law must serve as a source of fear for the guilty and a source of hope, trust and support for the innocent.
Addressing a programme organised on the occasion of Law Day 2083 in Kathmandu on Friday, President Paudel said weakening adherence to systems and traditions established by law could create fear and instability within society.
“For good governance, peace, prosperity and dignity, rule of law is both a tool and a remedy,” he said, adding that the true spirit of Law Day lies in strengthening commitment to legal order and democratic values.
President Paudel stated that Nepal’s Constitution guarantees federal democratic republicanism, civil liberties, fundamental rights, human rights, an independent judiciary and the rule of law.
He stressed the need for legal reforms in line with constitutional values and contemporary requirements to ensure easier public access to justice and faster case management through modern systems and technology.
He also expressed hope that Law Day would encourage positive thinking and strengthen public confidence in the judiciary by safeguarding judicial values and ensuring effective delivery of justice.
The programme was attended by Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla, Speaker of the House of Representatives Dol Prasad Aryal, National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal and other senior officials.
