Tenzing Strikes Bronze for Nepal in Asian Games Karate

Nepal has opened its medal account in the 20th Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 with a historic bronze in karate.

Tenzing Sherpa clinched bonze medal for Nepal in the men’s kumite over 84 kg repechage, defeating Laos’ Vatthana Jayasan with a commanding 9–1 score at Toyohashi Gymnasium.

Earlier, Sherpa overcame Macau’s On Tek Leon 1–0 in the opening round but fell to Iran’s Mahmad Nemati 5–0 in the semifinal.

He bounced back in the bronze medal bout to secure Nepal’s first podium finish of the Games.

Nemati, who had defeated Sherpa, went on to claim gold by beating Saudi Arabia’s Sand Hasan Sufyani 6–3 in the final.

Tenzing Sherpa has become the fifth Nepali karate player to win an Asian Games medal, marking a proud moment as Nepal registers its first medal at the 20th ASIAD.
