Rasuwa Flood Update: 1,030 Bodies Managed Safely

Out of the 1,344 bodies recovered following the Bhotekoshi flood, 1,030 have been safely laid to rest. The police report that this includes 222 women, 355 men, and 453 bodies that remain unidentified.

They have completed all necessary procedures, including DNA sampling, to help identify the deceased.

Nepal Police Spokesperson Abhi Narayan Kafle shared that they collected 1,260 DNA samples from the deceased and 1,122 from their relatives for identification purposes. He explained that the bodies were managed according to the “Unidentified and Unidentified Bodies Management (First Amendment) Directive, 2083 BS,” after gathering essential information from the DNA samples.

Each body is marked with a sign or code number both above and below ground. Additionally, the GPS coordinates of the burial sites, along with photo archives, detailed maps, and comprehensive management records, have all been documented.

This includes photos, DNA samples, identification numbers, postage stamps, post-mortem reports, and the date and location of each burial. DIG Kafle emphasized that if any family members come forward in the future, they will be able to identify their loved ones using the scientific and legal evidence available, and the bodies will be returned to them.

Details of 1,270 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the Nepal Police website. As of this morning, a total of 1,344 deceased individuals have been found across various districts. To assist in search, rescue, relief distribution, and body management in the flood-affected areas, 7,912 police personnel have been deployed.

The police are also actively searching for 4,886 individuals who are still missing due to the flood, while efforts continue to relocate families in coastal areas at risk of flooding to safer locations. (RSS)
