PM Shah Discusses Foreign Employment Issue With Malaysian Counterpart Ibrahim

Prime Minister Balendra Shah held a special discussion today with his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim via telephone.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Shah emphasized the need to make foreign employment between Nepal and Malaysia dignified, transparent, and free from exploitation. He clearly conveyed to Prime Minister Ibrahim that syndicate practices and middlemen in Malaysia’s labor sector are unacceptable to him and his government.

He stressed that such impractical and unjust trends cannot be tolerated and highlighted the necessity of joint initiatives for a permanent solution.

Prime Minister Shah told his counterpart: “We do not accept syndicates and middlemen under any circumstances. They have harmed workers. Therefore, I urge your labor minister to hold direct talks with our labor minister and take necessary steps to eliminate this problem permanently.”

Responding positively, Malaysian Prime Minister Ibrahim also clarified that he is against syndicate and middleman practices. He committed to immediately instructing his labor minister to coordinate with Nepal’s labor minister and move forward to resolve the issue.

Prime Minister Ibrahim said: “I am completely against such wrong and exploitative practices. I will immediately direct our labor minister to discuss this matter with the Nepali counterpart and come up with a concrete solution.”
