Monsoon Activities likely to Increase in Next Three Days; Department Advises Precautions

Rainfall ranging from heavy to very heavy has been forecast in various parts of the country in the next three days. In view of the forecast, public has been urged to take precautions against possible risks.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, heavy rainfall is likely at one or two locations in the hilly and Terai regions of the Lumbini Province.

Likewise, very heavy rainfall is expected at one or two locations in the hilly region of Karnali Province and hilly and Terai regions of Lumbini Province.

Department’s Spokesperson Bibhuti Pokharel said, in the past 24 hours, most parts of the country witnessed moderate rainfall, while some places recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Tonight, heavy rainfall is likely at one or two locations in the mountainous, hilly and Terai regions in Koshi, Bagamati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini Province.

Similarly, very heavy rainfall is likely at some locations in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

Likewise, one or two locations in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi , Bagamati and Gandaki provinces are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, one or two locations in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagamati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini Province are likely to witness heavy rainfall, the Department said.

Suggesting increased monsoon-related activities in the coming three days, the Department has urged citizens residing in vulnerable areas to take precautions against potential risks.

The Department has warned that flash floods may occur at small rivers in the Kathmandu Valley and other various districts across the country, urging the public for precautions.

It is forecast that waters levels in small rivers and streams flowing through Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur and Kavrepalanchok are likely to rise significantly today, posing a high risk of flash floods.

Similarly, small rivers based in Taplejung, Jhapa, Dhankuta, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Udayapur, Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Makawanpur, Gorkha, Lamjung, Tanahun, Kaski, Parbat, Myagdi, Syangja, Palpa, Gulmi, Chitwan, Nawalparasi (East), Nawalparasi (West) and surrounding districts are at moderate risk of flash floods.
