Kim Jong Un Appears in State Media Photographs After Death Rumors

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has appeared in state media photographs alongside his daughter, following unverified claims that he had died from a brain haemorrhage.

Photographs published by state newspaper Rodong Sinmun show the 42-year-old leader touring a clothing and footwear exhibition, contradicting social media speculation about his reported death.

The rumours originated with Wanjun Xie, who identifies himself as chairman of the Chinese Democratic Party, a group banned in China. Xie claimed, without providing evidence, that Kim had fallen into a coma at a hospital in Beijing, died and had been secretly returned to North Korea.

Xie has previously circulated unverified claims about the health and possible death of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Rumours surrounding Kim’s health frequently emerge because of North Korea’s secrecy and the limited independent access available to verify developments involving its leadership.

The latest photographs offer a public indication of Kim’s continued appearance in state media, while underscoring the difficulty of distinguishing verified information from speculation about one of the world’s most secretive regimes.
