Vijaya Dashami Tika Being Observed Across Nepal

Nepal is celebrating Vijaya Dashami today, with families gathering to receive red tika, barley-shoot jamara and blessings from elders for prosperity, good health and longevity.

The Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Development Committee has announced 10:26 AM as the auspicious time for those wishing to follow the traditional timing.

However, the committee says ordinary people do not need to wait for the auspicious hour, as Vijaya Dashami itself is considered a sacred day.

The festival symbolises the victory of good over evil, with Hindu tradition associating the day with Lord Ram’s victory over Ravana.

Tika and jamara are traditionally offered by parents, grandparents and other elders as families reunite to celebrate Nepal’s biggest Hindu festival.
