Hormuz Incident Sparks New US-Iran Strikes
The United States carries out airstrikes on Iranian military targets after a cargo ship is hit in the Strait of Hormuz, with Washington and Tehran each accusing the other of violating a ceasefire agreed last week.
The US Central Command says its aircraft strike missile and drone storage facilities and coastal radar sites on Friday in response to the attack on a commercial vessel transiting the strategic waterway.
President Donald Trump also accuses Iran of breaching the truce, while US officials say the military operation has concluded.
Iran says the cargo ship was using an unauthorised route through the Strait of Hormuz and rejects the US accusations.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says US strikes violated the ceasefire and adds that Iranian forces responded by targeting US military positions in the region, without providing details.
No casualties are immediately reported from the incidents.
The latest exchange raises fresh concerns over security in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for global oil and gas supplies, after a week-old ceasefire appeared to ease tensions in the region. (Agencies)
