Government for Establishing IoE College in Madhes Province: Minister Pokharel
The government has advanced a process to establish a new campus under the Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University (TU) in the Madhes Province.
According to Minister for Education and Sports, Sasmit Pokharel, the government was at work to establish the IOE constitute college in Madhes in order to expand access of technical education and end the compulsion of students from Madhes Province to go for outside to pursue engineering education.
A large number of students from the Madhes visit reach Kathmandu and other provinces in pursuit of engineering education, which causes them and parents/guardians additional financial burdens and other practical hassles.
As the Minister shared, a process was forwarded to locate an appropriate place for setting up such college and a special study committee will be formed towards that end. Though no specific deadline has been set for operating the campus, the tentative plan is to run classes from such facility by the next three years.
He added that a new campus will not remain just within a framework of traditional campus, but be promoted as a research and innovation centre as well. Presently, IoE constituent campuses are operational in Pulchowk and Thapathali of Kathmandu and Dharan, Chitwan and Pokhara.
The establishment of a new campus in Madhes Province is likely to expand the geographical reach of engineering education. (RSS)
