Rain Expected in Various Parts of the Country Starting Thursday
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported that a very powerful cyclone, named ‘Arnab’, originating from the Bay of Bengal, has already hit Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and caused cloud cover in some parts of Nepal. As a result, rain is expected across various regions of the country starting Thursday.
Meteorologist Binu Maharjan from the Department stated that due to the impact of Cyclone ‘Arnab’ there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall across various provinces in Nepal, as well as snowfall in the mountainous regions.
“The impact of the cyclone is already being observed in Nepal. Currently, there is partial cloud cover in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces; light rain even occurred in one or two places within Lumbini Province this morning,” she said. This system is expected to bring cloud cover, rain, and snowfall to Nepal up to Saturday.
Moderate rainfall is likely in most places across the mountainous regions of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Furthermore, moderate rainfall is also forecast for many locations across the hilly and Tarai regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Similarly, Maharjan stated that there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in a few places, and extremely heavy rainfall in one or two locations, across Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces. In Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, there is also a possibility of rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and hail in some areas.
The Department has hence urged the public to exercise necessary caution, as the anticipated rainfall could impact agricultural activities, mountaineering, trekking, and tourism. Farmers currently harvesting paddy have been specifically advised to plan their work by checking weather forecasts, and suggested that tourists traveling in high-hilly and mountainous regions remain in safe locations until weather conditions improve.
