NC President Calls for Judicial Probe Into Gen Z Protest Violence

Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has said that the incidents that took place during the “Gen Z” movement on September 9, 2025 remain without an impartial investigation.
Speaking at Koirala Niwas in Biratnagar, Morang on Saturday, Thapa accused the current government of attempting to cover up the incidents of 9th September and called for the immediate formation of a judicial commission to investigate the violence.
Thapa acknowledged that the state had weaknesses in relation to the “unfortunate incident” that occurred on September 8, adding that investigations and legal procedures regarding that event had moved forward.

However, he alleged that the state has remained silent over the vandalism, arson, and violence that took place on September 9 in areas ranging from Koirala Niwas to Chaksibari, Singha Durbar, and the Presidential Palace.
“An unfortunate incident occurred on September 8, and the state bore significant responsibility for it, which is why investigations were carried out,” Thapa said. “But many youths and police personnel also lost their lives on September 9. The chaos that unfolded in Nepal that day is yet to be accounted for, and it appears everyone has chosen to remain silent about it.”
