US reports naval transit through Strait of Hormuz amid tensions with Iran

The United States says its navy destroyers, along with US-flagged commercial vessels, have conducted transit operations through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route, as tensions with Iran continue.

According to US officials, the movement comes as Washington prepares measures to assist vessels stranded in the shipping lane.

An estimated 2,000 ships carrying around 20,000 seafarers have reportedly been unable to pass through the strait since the escalation of the US-Iran conflict in February.

On Sunday, President Donald Trump said the United States would begin helping affected vessels navigate the area.

Iranian media on Monday broadcast an audio message attributed to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), warning that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. The authenticity of the message has not been independently verified.

Earlier in the day, the US military rejected reports carried by Iranian state outlets claiming that Iranian forces had struck an American warship attempting to enter the strait.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically significant maritime corridors, linking major oil-producing regions in the Persian Gulf to international markets.

Disruptions in the waterway have raised concerns over global energy supplies and maritime security.

Officials have not confirmed when normal shipping operations in the area may resume. Agencies
