PM Oli Led Government Completes One Year in Office

It has been one year since two largest parties, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, formed a coalition government.

While constitutional amendments remain pending, the ruling alliance asserts success in economic improvement, good governance, and enhancing international relations.
Under Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s leadership, the government enacted transitional justice laws, established commissions including a Good Governance Commission, and initiated high-level economic reform bodies.
Diplomatic efforts during UN General Assembly participation and visits to Thailand and Spain reportedly sent positive signals internationally.
Despite continuous opposition disruptions in parliament over issues like cooperative scams and civil service cooling-off periods—prompting formation of parliamentary committees—the government highlights policy reforms that have positively impacted the economy.
Conversely, main opposition CPN Maoist Centre criticizes the coalition for failing to achieve significant progress, citing persistent economic challenges, import-export imbalance, weak lawmaking, and inadequate attention to education, health, and employment.
The coalition, formed on June 13 last year with a near two-thirds majority, had pledged political stability, constitutional amendments, and citizen-focused good governance under a seven-point agreement.
