Int’l Dairy Expo Kicks Off in Chitwan

An International Dairy Expo has kicked off here Sunday.
The event, organized by the Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and the Chitwan Dairy Producers’ Cooperatives Association was inaugurated by Dr Dipak Kharal, Secretary at Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
Secretary Kharal said government was at work to increase export of Nepali products. Use of technology helps in minimizing investment cost and increasing exports, he argued.
The Secretary, however, said all sides’ cooperation is imperative to boost exports. “Three tiers of government require increasing investment in agriculture and promoting self-entrepreneurship,” he viewed, adding that time has come to prioritize dairy sector.
He further said the farmers engaging in dairy should be made financially self-reliant. Government is planning a programme to this regard, Kharel informed.
On the occasion, other experts, including Vice Chancellor at University of Agriculture and Forestry, Prof Dr Sharada Thapaliya, said it is essential to minimize cost in dairy product and maximize production.
Urgency of market diversification of Nepali dairy products was featured significantly on the occasion.
There are over 100 stalls of Nepali and Indian dairy products in the exhibition. It is estimated that 50,000 people would turn up the event, thereby generating the proceeds of Rs 70 million.
The exhibition runs for five days. (RSS)
