After EC Recognition, NC President Thapa Calls for Unity

Newly elected President of the Nepali Congress (NC) Gagan Thapa has appealed to all party members to move forward in a united and integrated manner.

Thapa was elected president through the Second Special General Convention (SGC) of the Nepali Congress.

On Friday evening, the Election Commission granted legitimate status to the Thapa-led Nepali Congress as the official party.

Following the decision, President Thapa issued a press statement welcoming the move and expressing gratitude to the Election Commission, stating that the decision was made in line with the Constitution, existing laws, and the party statute.

He said the development should be viewed as the establishment of the rule of law rather than a matter of victory or defeat, and urged party members at all levels, including those who participated in the SGC and those who did not, to maintain restraint, unity and responsibility.

Thapa stated that the party belongs to its mass membership, not to a few leaders, and vowed to end factionalism and power-sharing practices.

He added that the SGC had reviewed past shortcomings and committed to strengthening the party’s democratic values, principles, and institutional framework.

He also expressed confidence that former NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and other senior leaders would support the party’s democratic process, and reiterated that the Nepali Congress would move forward as a people-oriented political party without compromising its core norms and principles.
