RSP and Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah Seal Seven-Point Political Deal

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Balen Shah, the mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, have reached a seven-point political agreement, formalised on Sunday morning.

Mayor Shah announced the agreement through a social media post, sharing photographs of the signing and confirming that the understanding was concluded earlier in the day.

The agreement was signed by Shah and RSP chair Ravi Lamichhane.

According to details made public, the agreement includes a commitment to acknowledge and support the youth-led movement against corruption and poor governance, with provisions to address the demands of families of those injured or killed during protests.

The understanding also outlines a future leadership arrangement: Lamichhane will continue as party chair, while Shah is designated as the parliamentary leader and the party’s candidate for prime minister following the next election to Nepal’s House of Representatives.

The agreement further states that the party’s name, election symbol, and central office will remain under the Rastriya Swatantra Party.

It also emphasises expanding youth participation within the party’s organisational structure.

The development comes amid continuing political realignments in Nepal, where newer political forces and independent figures have gained prominence by campaigning on anti-corruption and governance reform agendas.
