Floods and Landslides Disrupt More Than a Dozen Road Sections Across Nepal

Heavy rainfall has triggered floods and landslides, disrupting traffic along more than a dozen road sections across Nepal, including the Prithvi Highway and BP Highway, according to Nepal Police.

The Prithvi Highway has been completely blocked in both directions at Parewabhir in Gajuri Rural Municipality-2 of Dhading district after a landslide brought debris down onto the road.

The BP Highway has also been blocked at two locations in Kavrepalanchok district. Since 4:55 am, debris and mud carried by swollen streams have obstructed the highway at Pinthali in Roshi Rural Municipality-9 and Gimdibesi in Ward 8.

In Surkhet district, a dry landslide has completely blocked the Karnali Highway at Aulise in Barahatal Rural Municipality-7.

Other affected routes include sections of the Mid-Hill Highway in Khotang district, the Bagmati River Corridor in Lalitpur and the Kantipath Highway.

Rising water levels following continuous rainfall have also disrupted movement along the corridor at Sundarighat in Balkhu, Lalitpur Metropolitan City-2.

The Kaligandaki Corridor has been blocked at two locations. A landslide carrying mud and debris has obstructed the road at Rakshe in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-2 of Gulmi district. In Palpa, a landslide carrying rocks has completely blocked the paved section of the corridor at Kasiban in Rampur Municipality-1.

In Mugu district, the Nagm-Gamgadhi road has also been blocked at Talcha in Chhayanath Rara Municipality-7.

Nepal Police said the disruptions were caused by landslides, debris flows and rising water levels following persistent rainfall.

Authorities have urged travellers to exercise caution and check road conditions before setting out, particularly in areas vulnerable to landslides and flash floods.
