HoR Meeting: Concern Over a Woman’s Financial Crisis Leading to Childbirth on Footpath

Members of the House of Representatives (HoR) have drawn attention of the government towards a woman’s compulsion to give birth to a child on a footpath in front of hospital. She was reported to have no money for managing delivery at the health facility in Rajbiraj, Saptari.

Speaking in the urgent hour of today’s HoR meeting, they commented that though the constitution has guaranteed fundamental rights related to basic health, it is unfortunate to see such situation in the country.

On the occasion, Khagendra Karna demanded that the Health Minister should brief the House about the matter that a deprived woman was forced to manage delivery on footpath- that too in front of hospital.

Similarly, Ankita Thakur mentioned that the situation depicts a horrible condition of the state system, for it egregiously violates the fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution. Dhan Bahadur Budha asked the government to intensify search operation as Dolpa residents have also gone missing in Bhotekoshi flood.

Informing about the people affected by landslide in Kalikot, Kali Bahadur Sahakari urged the government for effective rescue and relief works. Likewise, Ganga Laxmi Awal demanded the government to supply adequate rescue materials in the disaster-hit areas.

Prem Bahadur Bayak drew government’s attention to solve the problem of cooking gas because people were depressed over not having access to daily essential. Sharing that eight aftershocks were recorded following an earthquake with Mustang as its epicenter on the night of September 8, Yogesh Gauchan Thakali, said more than 300 houses sustained minor damages due to earthquake.

He drew government’s attention for immediate arrangement of relief to the he affected households. Similarly, Kabindra Burlakoti and Bodh Narayan Shrestha put forth their views on contemporary issues. (RSS)
