Rasuwa Floods: 903 People Killed and More than 4,000 Missing So Far

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has confirmed that 903 people have died so far in the Rasuwa flash flood on August 26.

NDRRMA said that so far 267 people have been injured in the flood, and about 4,347 people are missing. Districts affected by the flood include Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Nawalparasi East and West, Tanahun, and Chitwan.

Authority’s spokesperson Shanti Mahat informed that 20,899 security personnel, including the Nepal Police, Nepali Army, and the Armed Police Force Nepal, are being deployed for search and rescue in the affected areas.

Spokesperson Mahat said so far 10,459 people trapped in the floods and landslides have been rescued. According to the authority, the Nepali Army has rescued 3,344 Nepali citizens and 252 foreign nationals by helicopter.

The authority stated that a total of 411 rescue sorties have been carried out for this purpose so far. The government has provided cash relief of Rs 10 million each to Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, and Rs 5 million to Dhading.

It has also been reported that Rs 67.5 million has been made available to 15 affected municipalities. According to the authority, sending food, non-food items, medicine, and health supplies to the affected areas is going on. (RSS)
