Special Security Plan for Festivals, Disaster Management Teams on Standby

The Nepal Police have enforced the ‘Special Security Plan, 2083’ focusing on the major festivals of the Nepali people, including Tihar, Nepal Sambat and Chhath.
The police placed special security arrangement to keep peace and security and check possible criminal and untoward activities during the festive time.
According to the Police Headquarters, police personnel have been deployed as needed to control theft, robbery, gambling, betting, quarrels, and other criminal activities that may occur during festivals.
Special surveillance and checks have been intensified in public transport areas, main market areas, border areas, and customs points.
Spokesperson at the Nepal Police Abhi Narayan Kafle informed that fire and disaster management teams have been kept standby round the clock considering the risk of fire and accidents from lamps, lights, and fireworks during Tihar.

He shared that local administrations have been urged to have carried out the Deusi-Bhailo programmes in a regulated manner within the set time.
Similarly, special patrol teams have been deployed at borders, customs areas, and markets to control the illegal trafficking, storage, and sale of fireworks and other explosive materials. The police have placed public awareness through local radio, newspapers, and social media, and urged the public not to involve in light fireworks, gambling or betting, creating disturbances under alcoholic influence, and to celebrate the festivals peacefully.
Plainclothes police have been mobilized in areas where gambling and other unintended activities might occur. Spokesperson Kafle said security arrangements have been beefed up to reduce disputes and clashes that could happen between two communities during rallies and processions organized on festive occasions.
He added that monitoring has been increased considering the possible impact on the elderly, children, and patients from activities like playing loud music with DJs and sound systems, bursting firecrackers, and doing fireworks late at night.
Special attention has been given to controlling potential activities related to domestic violence, beatings, and personal disputes.
The police have urged people to immediately inform the nearest police station, fire department, or relevant authorities in case of fire, explosion, or any other accident, and to help quickly rescue the injured and take them to the nearest health facility.
The police have also requested the general public to report to the police hotline 100 if anyone sees illegal trading, storage, or use of firecrackers and explosives. (RSS)
