Rasuwa Floods: Rock Avalanche along Nepal-China Border Results in Flash Flood in Bhotekoshi

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has reached a preliminary conclusions that a rock avalanche occurred along the Nepal-China border in Rasuwa triggered the devastating flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River.

According to NDRRMA executive chief Dr Dharmaraj Upreti, the rock avalanche that occurred about 20 kilometres northeast of the Rasuwagadhi border caused a sudden surge of mud and debris into the Bhotekoshi River, which then flowed through Timure and merged with the Trishuli River.

Preliminary findings were based on assessments of available satellite images, he said.
Satellite images indicate that a large mass of rocks and debris descended along the Nepal-China border, triggering the sudden flood in the Bhotekoshi River. (RSS)
