Unified Efforts of All Parties, Government Must for Effective Disaster Response: RSP President

President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, has called on the government and all political parties to make unified efforts for effective disaster response- rescue, relief and rehabilitation of the flash flood affected persons.

In the emergency hour of the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting today, president Lamichhane urged all parties to extend cooperation to the government bodies and local levels so that the rescue works could be coordinated well. At such hour of need, unified stand of the political parties works better, he viewed.

“At such hour of grief, all political parties- ruling and opposition- said they were together with government. I want to thank the opposition because they have showed high political culture,” president Lamichhane said, adding that there is continuous exchange of information among Prime Minister, Home Minister, Health Minister and government bodies regarding the flash flood and its impact.

RSP president expressed belief that government would make utmost efforts for adequate safety, human resources and other essentials in the affected areas. “Saving people’s lives is present urgency,” he said, urging the people living on the riverbanks of Rasuwa, Dhading, Chitwan and Nawalparasi districts to stay aware and calm and establish contact with government mechanisms.

According to him, the government efforts on disaster response should prioritize the rescue and relief to the children, women, senior citizens and people living with disabilities. He further informed that RSP would coordinate with the government and related agencies for rescue and rehabilitation. Lamichhane also reminded the high political culture among the parties during those difficult days of 2015 Gorkha Earthquake.

The president viewed RSP as the largest political party should be more responsible for disaster management. The RSP expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and property in the flooding and pledged to work in close coordination with government at this hour of crisis. (RSS)
