Nepal Women One Win Away from Asian Games After Heartbreaking Loss

Nepal women’s cricket team suffered a narrow two-wicket defeat against hosts Malaysia in the semifinal of the Asian Games Qualifier on Friday, but remain in contention for a place in the 2026 Asian Games.

In the match played at Bayuemas Oval, Malaysia successfully chased Nepal’s target of 127 runs, reaching 127 for 8 in 18.4 overs.

Earlier, Nepal posted 126 runs for the loss of six wickets after electing to bat first following the toss.

Six teams are participating in the qualifier, with the top three securing berths for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

Following the semifinal defeat, Nepal will now face China in a crucial third-place playoff for the final remaining ticket to the Games.

Japan, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have already secured direct qualification.

Nepal’s decisive match against China is scheduled for Sunday at 7:15 am Nepal Standard Time.
