225 Bodies From Rasuwa Floods Remain Unidentified in Chitwan
Of 233 bodies recovered and brought to Chitwan following the devastating Rasuwa floods, only eight have been identified, while 225 remain unidentified, according to the District Administration Office.
Authorities said 221 of the unidentified bodies are being kept at holding centres and health facilities.
With the remains deteriorating and posing a potential risk of infection and disease, the district administration has decided to proceed with their collective management.
Under a decision by the District Security Committee, DNA samples will be collected from unidentified and unclaimed bodies, with records maintained using identification numbers before the remains are respectfully managed at an open site in Devghat, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-1.
Officials said the decision was taken on health and safety grounds while ensuring the bodies are handled respectfully and in accordance with the law.
