Various Highways Blocked due to Landslides, Floods

With the relentless rains, landslides and floods have wreaked havoc on major highways and roads across various districts in the country. Nepal Police shared updates as of 6:00 am today, noting that some roads are completely impassable while others have restrictions on vehicle movement during the night.

To mitigate the risk of flooding, all vehicles are prohibited from traveling on the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebensi road section of the BP Highway, which connects Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, from 6:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

Likewise, vehicle operations on Kanti Highway are banned from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The Ilam Municipality-9 Mechi highway has been entirely closed to traffic due to muddy conditions caused by the rain.

A landslide has completely blocked the road in the Jirokilo and Kodari areas along the Arani Highway in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality of Sindhupalchok. In Dolakha’s Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-5 Kirnetar, the Lamasanghu-Ramechhap road section has been obstructed as the Tamakoshi River has eroded the road.

Similarly, the Khalte Pasang Lhyamu road segment in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5 of Rasuwa has been cut off by the Trishuli River, rendering it completely impassable.

Additionally, the Larke-Benighat unpaved road in Dharche Rural Municipality-3 Underdanda of Gorkha has also been fully blocked due to a landslide, according to police reports.

Authorities are urging everyone to check road conditions with the relevant agencies and to take necessary precautions before traveling, as the rainy season brings a heightened risk of landslides, floods, and road erosion. (RSS)
