USA Begin Home World Cup Win

The United States opened their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with a convincing 4-1 victory over Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Thursday.

The hosts took an early lead when a cross from Weston McKennie was turned into the net by Paraguay’s Damián Bobadilla for an own goal.

Folarin Balogun then doubled the advantage before adding his second of the match later in the first half, giving the United States a 3-0 lead at the break.

Paraguay pulled a goal back late in the second half through Mauricio, but substitute Gio Reyna sealed the victory with a fine finish in stoppage time.

The result earned the United States three points from their opening Group D match, while Paraguay began the tournament with a defeat. (Agencies)
