US Says ‘Significant Progress’ Made in Iran Talks as Deal Nears

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said “significant progress” has been made in ongoing talks with Iran, although key issues still remain unresolved.

The remarks came after US President Donald Trump claimed that an agreement with Iran had been “largely negotiated,” including discussions surrounding the reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz shipping route.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the “final aspects and details” of the deal were still under discussion and would be announced shortly.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei cautioned that recent convergence between Tehran and Washington did not necessarily mean agreements had been reached on major outstanding issues.

The United States and Iran had initially agreed to a two-week ceasefire, which was later extended to allow more time for peace negotiations.

The talks come amid heightened regional tensions and concerns over global energy security linked to disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipments.
