Rescue Efforts Intensify for Workers Trapped Inside Hydropower Tunnel in Nepal

Rescue teams in Nepal have intensified efforts to reach people believed to be trapped inside a tunnel at the Trishuli 3A hydropower project in the northern district of Rasuwa, as adverse weather conditions hamper the operation.

Authorities have been working for a second consecutive day to clear mud and debris blocking the tunnel entrance after reports that people were trapped inside the underground structure.

A joint team of 82 security personnel has been working continuously since Friday night to reopen the tunnel and accelerate the search.

The team includes 62 members of the Nepal Army and 20 personnel from the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police.

The rescue operation has been complicated by persistent poor weather in the area, officials said.

Meanwhile, an Indian rescue team dispatched to assist with the operation has arrived in the Trishuli area.

The team is conducting an initial aerial reconnaissance of the Chilime and Langtang regions by helicopter to assess conditions and determine what additional rescue support may be required.

Authorities have prioritised clearing the tunnel entrance so that rescuers can gain access to the underground section and establish the condition and location of those reportedly trapped inside.

The operation remains ongoing, with security forces and rescue personnel continuing to remove accumulated mud and debris despite difficult conditions.
