PM Shah Pledges Stronger Action for Women’s Rights and Gender Equality

Prime Minister Balendra Shah has reiterated the government’s commitment to effectively implementing women’s rights, gender equality, and women’s empowerment.
In a message of best wishes issued on the occasion of the 8th National Women’s Rights Day, the Prime Minister said the Constitution of Nepal has guaranteed women’s rights as fundamental human rights while ensuring proportional and inclusive representation and meaningful participation in all state bodies.
Prime Minister Shah stressed the need to combine legal measures with public awareness campaigns to eliminate harmful social practices such as child marriage, witchcraft-related abuse, Chhaupadi, dowry, and different forms of gender-based, domestic, and digital violence.
He emphasized active collaboration among the state, communities, and all stakeholders for the protection and promotion of women’s rights.
The Prime Minister also pledged to end all forms of violence, oppression and discrimination against women by empowering women who are economically, socially and educationally marginalized.
He said the government remains committed to building a self-reliant and prosperous society through inclusive empowerment.
On the occasion, Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Social Security Sita Badi also highlighted the important role of both the state and society in advancing women’s rights, gender equality and social transformation.
In her message, Minister Badi said the full implementation of constitutionally guaranteed women’s rights requires commitment and active participation from all sectors.
She stated that women’s rights are not limited to legal provisions or policy declarations, but are also linked to social behaviour, equal access to opportunities and dignified participation in society.
This year, National Women’s Rights Day is being observed under the slogan: “Respect for Women’s Rights: Campaign for Self-Reliance and Prosperity.”
