Parliament Session Ends at Midnight as Both Houses Hold Final Meetings

Nepal’s current session of the Federal Parliament is set to end at midnight on October 2, after President Ram Chandra Paudel prorogued the session on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

The decision, issued under Article 93, Sub-Article 2 of the Constitution, comes as both houses of Parliament hold their scheduled meetings today.

The House of Representatives is taking up pending oral and written questions, along with several bills and reports.

The agenda includes consideration of legislation on waste management, national defence, women and children, reproductive health, health institutions and other areas.

The House is also scheduled to pass the Remuneration, Condition of Service, and Facilities of Office-Bearers of Constitutional Bodies (First Amendment) Bill, 2083.

The National Assembly is meeting separately to address pending questions and consider legislation, including the Domestic Air Service Liability Bill, 2083 and amendments to the National Forensic Science Laboratory (Establishment and Operation) Bill, 2081.

With the presidential order taking effect from midnight, today’s proceedings mark the end of the current parliamentary session.
