Nepal,Norway Discuss Green Transition and Sustainable Development

Nepal and Norway held the second meeting of the Nepal–Norway Bilateral Consultation Mechanism (BCM) in Kathmandu on Monday, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation in development, renewable energy and climate resilience.
The meeting was led by Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, Joint Secretary and Head of Europe Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal and Signe Brudeset, Director General of the Department for Regional Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway.
The meeting reviewed Nepal–Norway relations, where Nepal appreciated Norway’s continued support for its development efforts.
During the meeting Nepal shared its current political priorities, focusing on good governance, anti-corruption and efficient service delivery.
It highlighted hydropower, tourism and information technology as key drivers of economic growth, while discussions on cooperation focused on education, renewable energy and climate resilience.
Both sides explored cooperation in the green economy, particularly in clean energy transition and electric mobility.
Nepal also requested greater Norwegian engagement in hydropower generation and transmission networks.
Regional and global issues, including the Sustainable Development Goals and global peace and stability were also discussed.
Both sides reaffirmed support for multilateralism and a rules-based international order.
The first meeting of the mechanism was held in Oslo in June 2022.
