Kaligandaki Corridor, Disrupted for Over Six Days, Still Not Operational

The Kaligandaki Corridor which has remained disrupted for the past six days due to landslides triggered by heavy continuous rain has yet to come into operation. The landslide occurred in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-2, Rakse on Thursday night had caused complete obstruction on the road.

Efforts to clear debris using dozers and excavators has been on since Monday in coordination with the local government and the Palpa Road Division Office, informed Bed Bahadur Thapa, chairperson of Kaligandaki Rural Municipality.

According to him, landslides with boulders have occurred in four to five places, making it tough to resume traffic operation on the road section, especially the Harmichaur-Arveni-Purtighat area.

He further said while the local government is clearing debris on roads, the Road Division Office has stepped up its actions on the main road. “Since there is a huge landslide on the main road, it may take another two to three days for the road to be fully operational,” said Chairperson Thapa. (RSS)
