Guthi Bill to Be Introduced Soon: Minister Rawal

Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration, Pratibha Rawal, has shared that laws required for management of guthi land are being formulated.

Participating in a question answer session with lawmakers in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Minister Rawal expressed the view that draft of the laws is being prepared keeping religion, civilization, heritages, traditions, cultures, practices and public property protection in mind.

She assured that the bill would be presented soon as the government has been holding extensive study and discussion with experts and stakeholders for the same. Responding to queries raised by lawmaker Yubaraj Dulal, Minister Rawal clarified that the government was serious about the rights of guthi land and added that land earned through tenancy could be purchased and sold as well as transfer rights in accordance with existing laws.

She underlined that legal provisions would be made to ensure compliance with the Supreme Court’s decision against plotting of land as well as past agreement signed between the past governments and concerned sides. Although the Guthi Bill was tabled in the National Assembly in the past, it was returned after it stirred a controversy. (RSS)
