Nepal’s Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and 96 others over the alleged illegal sale and exchange of government-owned land in Morang district.

The anti-graft body has accused the defendants of facilitating the unauthorised transfer of public land exempted from statutory landholding limits and has sought recovery of 734.9 million rupees or about about USD 4.8 million in damages.

Former minister Minendra Rijal and several former senior government officials are also among those charged. The Commission has additionally sought confiscation of the disputed land under prevailing anti-corruption laws.
