Foreign Minister Khanal to Lead Nepal in NAM Commemorative Meeting in Belgrade

Nepal is participating in the High-Level Commemorative Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement NAM in Belgrade under the leadership of Foreign Minister Sishir Khanal.

The meeting will be held in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, on August 31 and September 1. The Cabinet decided on August 10 that a three-member Nepali delegation led by Foreign Minister Khanal will attend the commemorative meeting.

The first summit of the Non-Aligned Movement was held in Belgrade in 1961.

To mark the 65th anniversary of that inaugural summit, this year’s high-level commemorative meeting is being organized in Belgrade.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Khanal will depart for Serbia on August 29 evening and return to Nepal on September 2.

The event will be attended by world leaders, delegations from various countries, and representatives of NAM member states.

Nepal has embraced the principle of non-alignment as a cornerstone of its foreign policy. The Constitution of Nepal also recognizes commitment to the Non-Aligned Movement as a fundamental policy.

Nepal has consistently participated at a high level in NAM’s Bandung Conference, summits, ministerial meetings, and other gatherings, while playing a continuous and constructive role in the movement.
