Wild Mushrooms Leave 11 Hospitalised in Jhapa

Eleven members of a family in Jhapa fell ill after consuming wild mushrooms collected from a forest, police said.

The incident occurred in Buttabari of Bahardashi Rural Municipality-2, where the family of Tej Bahadur Khawas reportedly ate a mushroom dish prepared for breakfast on Sunday.

According to District Police Office Jhapa Information Officer Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, all family members developed health complications after consuming the mushrooms.

Those taken ill include 50-year-old Kamalamaya Khawas, 31-year-old Dilli Khawas, 20-year-old Anita Khawas and eight children.

The patients were initially taken to the Provincial Hospital in Bhadrapur for treatment. Police said nine of them were later referred to a children’s hospital in Damak for further care.

Two patients are reported to be in moderate condition, while the others are said to be stable.

Police have urged the public not to consume unidentified wild mushrooms, warning that they may be poisonous and pose serious health risks.
