Nepal Sees 4.7% Invalid Votes in Recent Election

The Election Commission of Nepal has reported that 4.7% of votes were invalid in the recent parliamentary elections held on March 5.
According to Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC, this rate of invalid voting applied to both the first-past-the-post and proportional representation systems.
Comparing with previous elections, the proportion of invalid votes has slightly decreased.
In the last parliamentary elections of 2022, 5.06% of votes were invalid.
Looking further back, the second Constituent Assembly elections on 2013 saw 4.96% invalid votes, and the first Constituent Assembly elections on 2008, recorded 5.15% invalid ballots.
The Election Commission noted that, compared to the last five national elections, this year’s invalid vote percentage is relatively lower.
