Canada and France Open Consulates in Greenland
Canada and France have opened consulates in Greenland’s capital, Nuuk, signaling support for the local government amid US President Donald Trump’s claim to the Danish autonomous territory.
French Ambassador to Denmark Christophe Parisot emphasized that the move is directed primarily at Greenlandic and Danish authorities, saying, “I think it would be wrong to think that it is a signal sent to the American administration; actually, it is a signal sent to our Greenlandic and Danish friends first and foremost.”
The consulates aim to strengthen diplomatic, economic and cultural ties with Greenland, reflecting growing international interest in the strategically important Arctic region. (AFP)
