Trump Envoys Hold Talks with Ukraine and European Allies on Ending War

Envoys of US President Donald Trump have held talks in Washington with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and senior security advisers from Britain, France and Germany to discuss next steps towards ending Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Zelenskyy alongside the national security advisers of the three European countries, often referred to collectively as the European troika.
The discussions focused on proposals aimed at advancing a US-led peace effort. In a post on social media, Witkoff said the talks had centred on pushing negotiations forward in a practical way, including strengthening security guarantees and establishing effective mechanisms for de-escalation to help bring the war to an end and prevent its resumption.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Ukraine’s chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, also took part in the discussions.
Separately, President Zelenskyy said on Wednesday that national security advisers from countries belonging to the so-called coalition of the willing supporting Kyiv would meet in Ukraine on Saturday, followed by a summit of leaders in France on January 6.
The coalition, led by Britain and France, includes more than 30 countries backing Ukraine politically and militarily. (QNA)
