Nepal Secures Second Place in International Karate Championship
Nepal has secured second place in the 17th International Open Karate Championship which had the participation of players from SAARC countries.
In the previous competition, Nepal won the most medals, and this time it secured 27 medals including 18 gold, seven bronze and two silver, achieving second place.
A total of 22 players, including 11 women from Nepal across different age and weight groups, participated in the competition held in Pune, India.
Basanta Roka Kshetri, Giri Pun, and Milan Gaha participated as ‘officials’ of the Nepali team. Milan Gaha, a member of the Nepali team’s official team, informed that Siankaji Rana represented the Nepali team in the SAARC-level competition, in which 470 players competed.
On the occasion of the competition’s closing, Goju-Ryo Karate Nepal’s chief coach Kaji Rana expressed his belief that sports competitions of this kind at regional and international levels play an important role in strengthening camaraderie, friendship, and sports diplomacy among participating nations.
Vice President of the Maharashtra Olympic Association, Manoj Bohare, presented medals to the winning players.
India came out first by winning 37 medals, including 22 gold, 10 silver, and five bronze in the Championship. Sri Lanka secured the third position in the two-day competition, which saw participation from players of Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.
The international open karate competition was organized by Japan Karate-Do Nabukah Shito- Ryu Karate and coordinated by Kyokushin Karate champion Raju Thapa from Maharashtra. (RSS)
