Zelensky Heads to Florida as Russia Steps Up Attacks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is travelling to Florida for talks with US President Donald Trump, as diplomatic efforts to explore an end to the war with Russia gain momentum amid continued fighting.

The meeting, scheduled for Sunday, is expected to centre on a US-brokered 20-point peace proposal, alongside separate discussions on possible security guarantees for Ukraine, according to officials.

Before arriving in the United States, Zelensky is due to stop in Canada for talks with Prime Minister Mark Carney and to hold calls with key international allies, as Kyiv seeks to consolidate diplomatic support.

The high-level engagements come as Ukraine faces renewed Russian attacks.

Overnight, the capital Kyiv was struck by a fresh wave of Russian missiles and drones, killing one person and injuring at least 28 others, according to Ukraine’s state emergency service.

Officials said the assault stood out not only for its impact but for its duration, lasting nearly 10 hours, underscoring the sustained pressure on Ukraine’s air defences.

In a post on X, President Zelensky said the bombardment demonstrated that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not “want to end the war” and is instead seeking “to use every opportunity to cause Ukraine even greater suffering.” Agencies
