Nepal Set to Go Green in Upcoming Election
The Election Commission is considering making the upcoming House of Representatives Election of March 5, 2026 as eco-friendly and environment sustainable.
The Commission is preparing to issue a code of conduct designed to minimize pollution and promote environmental sustainability and make the upcoming election a “Green Election”.
The Election Commission has decided to reduce the use of plastic materials and promote eco-friendly alternatives during the election period.

During a meeting with political parties held on October 16, the Commission had urged them to conduct their election campaigns without pollution and to avoid using plastic-based promotional materials such as pamphlets and posters.
Instead, the Commission has encouraged the use of electronic and digital media for campaigning.
The Commission had previously, during the 2022 federal and provincial elections had pressed for minimal use of plastic and fuel.
However, this time the Commission has gone a step further issuing a formal code of conduct to ensure that the upcoming election is truly environmentally friendly.
The initiative aims to promote sustainability, reduce plastic waste and set an example of responsible governance by conducting Nepal’s first fully eco-friendly national election.
